Would you buy one of these? Pay to read the news on it? I wouldn’t. The newspaper industry has to realize that in order to revitalize (and, um, stop losing money) it has to dramatically rethink its place in today’s free culture/social-media-obsessed world. I mean, at least they are trying something new (it’s not like I have any better ideas), and it’s cool that Amazon is collaborating with NYT, the Washington Post, and The Boston Globe, or more so that newspapers are somewhat joining together, but IMO it’s kind of a lazy way to stick to an old business model and won’t turn out to be that lucrative.
Plus, introducing the Kindle DX in the old NYT building? Is there supposed to be some phoenix rising out of the ashes metaphor here?
